Books I (we) Read on 2011

Posted by Sudi in Books,Church,Ethics,General,Politics on December 17th, 2011 at 02:47pm

Christian Biographies

Lillian Trasher- Missionary to Egypt. She saved the lives of thousands of young children and provided a loving home for them all.

Idda Scudder- She was the first female missionary doctor. Her mission field was India. The school she founded is still running. A woman of great faith!

Loren Cunningham- The founder of YWAM. This is a wonderful missionary story filled with adventure.

Loren Cunnigham- This is his authobiography which provides even more details then the above version. His story is amazing!

Christian Living

by Loren Cunningham- This is an excellent book on personal finance, missions and faith.

by Joy Dawson- We read about her in Cunningham’s books. She is a giant of the faith. Taught us a lot about the Holy Spirit.

by Joy Dawson- This book forever changed the way Steven and I look at intercessory prayer! Excellent!

by Robert Heidler- I just finished reading this book about the Holy Spirit. A must read! Biblical and personal. I hope I can apply everything I learned.

by John Piper- I read this short little gem with Lucy this summer. We both loved it.

Research

by Thomas Stanley- I bought this at a book sale. It is fascinating! It tells you the secrets of the rich and what you find out is not what you thought it would be.

by Martin Seligman- This is a book about Optimism, how to learn it and why it is good for your health to be optimistic. It is 100% based on reasearch but very readable. An excellent book on depression as well since Optimism is the best way to combat depression. Cognitivists will love it!

by David Snowdom- Another research based treasure. It details groundbreaking findings on aging and Alzheimers. I could not put it down.

 History

by Peter Marshall- The real history of the American Revolution. Excellent!

Ethics

by Norma Geisler – We have a friend who is getting a PhD on Christian Ethics. So I got curious and read this book. I learned all six different philosophies of ethics, 3 of which apply to Christians. The chapter on abortion is excellent.

by Robert P George- A deep read! Learned a lot. George is a professor at Princeton. Ethics and philosophy and politics nicely integrated. The chapter on the “Tyrant State” a must read for conservative voters. Chapters 7-9 my favorites.

Politics

by Rick Green- Written by a Christian patriot. He is very knowlegable. The chapter on “The separation of church and state” is life changing. Did you know that phrase does not appear in the Declaration or the Constitution? It has been misused and abused for years.

by Arthur Brooks- This is a very good primer on the culture war in America. It is very easy to read but it also teaches you a lot about the important role that free enterprise plays in a healthy democracy.

by Thad McCotter- He is a U.S Representative  from Michigan. I loved the book. He is a true conservative- patriot! Learned a lot about China and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.  BEWARE! Hoping McCotter will be our next VP.

by Pat Robertson - Alarming description of the most disastrous rulings of the Supreme Court. I learned a lot about Justice Blackmun and the big role he played in the infamous Roe vs. Wade. Can’t say I enjoyed this book, I found myself getting angrier and angrier. Nevertheless it is good to be imformed.

by Mark Levin- This is the same idea as the previuos book but with a heavy historical component which I really appreciated. Excellent and troubling! Mark Levin is spot on! He too, is angry.

Political Biographies

by George W Bush- What can I say? W is my HERO!!!

Book of the Year!

by Dick Cheney- Really enjoyed it. This guy is a principled- political giant!

by Justice Clarence Thomas- Riveting! I read it in two days. I learned a lot not only about this great man, but about politics, Joe Biden, justice, truth and race.

Introducting ThemeSorter

Posted by Steven in Work on February 7th, 2011 at 05:44pm

We just launched ThemeSorter. The idea for this site came to me when I was looking for a premium theme for WordPress to start a new blog with. I discovered that there are dozens (possibly more than a hundred) companies that produce professionally designed themes for WordPress. As I was browsing through some of their websites, it occurred to me that a site must exist that would let me search for themes from multiple sellers, thus making it easier/quicker to find the right theme.

Long story short, I never found such as site and I never bought a premium theme to start a new blog with. Instead, I started developing ThemeSorter, which is a powerful searchable database of premium themes from multiple sellers (thank you Sudi for adding the themes). We’ll be adding more and more themes and sellers over the months as well as coupon codes and deals. My hope is that this will prove to be a useful tool for all the premium WordPress theme shoppers out there. By the way, WordPress is a full-blown publishing platform now—not just for blogs, but for managing any type of site.

During this project I learned the importance of praying daily for wisdom about how to go about the next piece of work and to ask the Lord to do that work for me, so that I don’t toil in my own power and produce something fruitless. Thank you, Lord, for the completion of this new website and the possibilities it brings.

Lucy’s Birthday 2011

Posted by Sudi in Family,Food,Fun,General,Holidays,Outdoors,Photography,Places on February 5th, 2011 at 11:23am

We had a lovely time with Lucy celebrating her B-day at the Highlands in Arlington (Jan 10th). It was a beautiful sunny day. We ate at PFC. That’s always a treat! And yes I cut my hair. I donated 12 inches to The Angel Hair Foundation for Christmas.

Spring Wildflowers (2010)

Posted by Steven in Outdoors,Photography,Places on January 9th, 2011 at 03:28pm

Here are more photos from last year that I didn’t upload until now. I rode my bike out toward the edge of civilization in May to snap the wildflowers. This is southwest Benbrook which is southwest of Fort Worth in southwest Tarrant County. The southwestern edge of civilization! :)

Some Old Record Snowfall Shots

Posted by Steven in Outdoors,Photography,Weather on January 9th, 2011 at 03:26pm

Here are some photos from January one year ago that I didn’t uplod until now. During Winter of 2009-2010 North Texas / Dallas-Fort Worth had record 24 hour snowfall. In Benbrook we had 8.5″ in 24 hours while Haslet had the most at 14″. The airport received somewhere in between. This is substantial because the area usually only gets 1 – 2″ per year. For the season, the total was 10X greater. This all followed a White Christmas in 2009.

Latest Biz Happenings

Posted by Steven in Work on September 27th, 2010 at 04:05pm

It’s nearly October and this is my first blog post of the year! The reason is that the year has been interesting. God is good and He has been answering my prayers. The path has not been what I expected but the destination is the same! I have been able to focus almost exclusively on developing sites for my own company rather than sites for others. For the first time ever, I feel like I really am self-employed.

Last week I revamped the DreamDolphin Media homepage to display some of the new projects and thought I’d make a blog post to go along with it. The company finally has a real site, even if it is only one page (and eight years late). We’ve spent most of this year expanding our personality sites which now fall under the new Personality Max division.

Also, digitalart.org turned 10 years old. Now that is a site that needs revamping! Or if I wait long enough, people will think it has a trendy retro look. Yeah. :)

Happy Birthday

Posted by Sudi in Family,Food,Fun,Garden,General,Holidays,Outdoors,Photography,Places on May 9th, 2010 at 07:20pm

What an utter disgrace… we haven’t blogged in 115 days! We’re still here.

Steven and I celebrated my Birthday yesterday in our California-like-spot… Rockwall Texas. The drive was amazing, we listened to all our old favorite songs. The weather was perfect! While we were eating, the near by fountain sprayed us with mist every once in a while, so we pretended it was an ocean breeze. The food was perfectly vegan and delicious. We walked for a long time taking beautiful pictures. I took a spectacular shot of Steven, it belongs on the cover of a Ralph Lauren Catalog- very regal- very handsome! We took a “silly” picture and it was my idea- very surprising. It got pretty hot at around 4pm and so we laid down under a shady tree and talked for another long while. It was a magical day (Thank you, my darling)!

I got a beautiful bouquet of tulips (my favorite), a pirate speed-boat and a super sweet card. It says:

Take joy in the music of life.
They’s playing your Song.
Happy Birthday!

Puritan Prayer

Posted by Sudi in General on January 14th, 2010 at 11:56am

The Valley of Vision

Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly, Thou hast brought me to the valley of vision, where I live in the depths but see Thee in the heights; hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold Thy glory. Let me learn by paradox that the way down is the way up, that to be low is to be high, that the broken heart is the healed heart, that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit, that the repenting soul is the victorious soul, that to have nothing is to possess all, that to bear the cross is to wear the crown, that to give is to receive, that the valley is the place of vision. Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells, and the deeper the wells the brighter Thy stars shine; let me find…
Thy light in my darkness,
Thy life in my death,
Thy joy in my sorrow,
Thy grace in my sin,
Thy riches in my poverty,
Thy glory in my valley.
