You Gotta Love Country
Among many other lovely gifts, for Christmas, Steven made me a CD with my favorite Country Songs. I know some of you are rolling your eyes, but I have a case to make for country music. No, it’s not all twangy and it’s not all about drunks and lost loves. Quite the contrary some of the most beautiful lyrics can be found among Country’s best hits. Here’s a sample of the words to my favorite songs:
When I get where I’m going
When I get where I’m going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I’m gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly
I’m gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it’s like
To ride a drop of rain
But when I get where I’m going
And I see my maker’s face
I’ll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Live like you were dyin’
Well I finally read the good book, and I took a good long hard look
At what I’d do if I could do it all again
And then
Chorus
I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Shu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I’d been denyin’
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin’
Bridge
Like tomorrow was the end
And ya got eternity to think about what to do with it
My wish
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
and while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but you never forget,
all the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
and you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God’s grace, in every mistake,
and always give more than you take.
Jesus take the wheel
Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can’t do this all on my own
I’m letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I’m on
Jesus take the wheel
She’s Everything
She’s the giver I wish I could be
And the stealer of the covers
She’s a picture in my wallet
Of my unborn children’s mother
She’s the hand that I’m holding
When I’m on my knees and praying
She’s the answer to my prayer
And she’s the song that I’m playing
She’s the voice I love to hear
Someday when I’m ninety
She’s that wooden rocking chair
I want rocking right beside me
Everyday that passes
I only love her more
Yeah, she’s the one
That I’d lay down my own life for
You see Country is about people, about loving God, your love, your family and your country.
Country music always tells a story and I love it!

I like the lyrics. Steve could you put some of the music on your site?

Many of these same lyrics could be sung as Rap.
So, I still don’t like Country.

They could probably be sung in any style. But who wrote these songs? How much mainstream rap dares to speak of Jesus or anything good for that matter? Christian rap is a different story, but that’s not mainstream at all. Mainstream country produces a lot of songs (not true of any other mainstream secular genre) with good messages and that’s what’s special about it.

Well said! ” We’re goin’ Country! lalala”

Bottom line: you won’t hear Jesus on the radio unless it’s a Christian station or a COUNTRY station. If you hear him on another station it’ll be in the context of mockery.
And there’s no music as patriotic as country.
And… the end.

“That’s something to be proud of
That’s a life you can hang your hat on”
