Texas Wildflowers

Posted by Steven in Outdoors, Photography on April 24th, 2008 at 05:46am

There are wildflowers popping up all around here - white, pink, yellow, red and blue. They grow on the grassy areas along the side of the highways and in fields. We’ve noticed people taking pictures of their kids in the blue flowers and now I know why. Bluebonnets are the Texas state flower and they are only going to be around for a little while. Here is a nice flickr set by Jeff Clow called The Bluebonnet Trail.

Spring is here and we have succeeded on our first gardening experience. We started three weeks ago by having Weed-Man come over and remove some old shrubs and other ugly landscaping the previous owner left behind. We wanted to start fresh and do our own thing. We bought all our supplies, plants, soil and flowers at the THE PLANT SHED a local greenhouse. There we met Libby, who tutored us and told us all we needed to know about planting a flower garden. So here it is, 30 bags of top soil, 10 bags of manure, 1 bag of hardwood mulch, 3 Forsinthia bushes and 71 white and purple petunias later, our masterpiece.~
