When we went to bed last night it was raining sleet. Whatever that is. When we woke up this morning it was 20 degrees and the street was covered with ice. Our pansies didn’t seem to mind – you can’t kill ‘em! All the schools closed and the neighborhood kids took the wheels off their skateboards to go snowboarding (good idea!). We had an ice storm earlier this month but the difference is that while that one produced huge icicles, this one actually froze the streets solid. Here are some photos.
PS. It’s not like this all winter long. Snow 0 – 2 days a year (PERFECT) and ice probably about the same. I don’t remember seeing any ice in Benbrook until we bought our house.

On November 5th (Election Day) I decided to write a Thank-you letter to George W Bush. Something I had been wanting to do. Steven encouraged me to write it and send it right away. He was a lot more optimistic than I was about the possibility of it reaching the president’s hands. I sent the letter that week, inside a very nice Hallmark card of a teddy bear carrying a suitcase full of gratitude. A very heart warming card, that depicted my feelings exactly.
I prayed that he would get it and that it would encourage him.
On December 22nd. two days before Christmas Eve, I went and got the mail. We got all kinds of Christmas cards that day so I was busy opening those, when Steven suddenly exclaimed, Honey, you got something from the White House.
With trembling hands I opened it and found a lovely note from Bush, thanking me for the card and letter. Along with the note with its presidential seal and all, was the most handsome picture of Bush wearing his cowboy hat. Lucy, Steven and I jumped up and down, screamed and cried all at once. It was such a beautiful moment. A wonderful Christmas gift.
As a tribute to one of the greatest Presidents in history; this blog will be published and the framed letter will be hanged in our office on Tuesday Januray 20th at noon.
Dear Mr. President, George W. Bush:
My name is Sudi Kate Gliebe. I became a US citizen last year on June 22nd. I have the lovely letter you wrote to us new citizens, framed in my bedroom, in our home in Texas. More than ever before, this letter signed by you, Mr. President, will be one of my greatest treasures. Being sworn in as an American citizen was a life long dream and one of my life’s greatest privileges. I love this country.
You have led us with so much grace and integrity. You have endured tremendous challenges and conquered immense obstacles. I know that your faith in Christ and your commitment to serve our great country gave you the strength to press on. My desire in writing this letter is to let you know that there are millions of Americans that are grateful for your leadership. The media and the entertainment industry have done a sad job at discrediting you, but the citizens of America have not and will not be fooled.
I hope you leave the presidency knowing you will be terribly missed. Your legacy will be rich and inspiring for generations to come. You will be remembered with the same love and admiration we remember the great Abraham Lincoln.
Thank you for keeping us safe, as you vowed to do on 9/11.
Thank you for defending the rights of the unborn.
Thank you for upholding the sanctity of marriage.
Thank you for fighting for freedom and democracy for all man kind.
Thank you for being a friend to Israel.
Please know that you and Laura are dearly loved, admired, and deeply appreciated.
Your absence from the White House will be deeply felt throughout America.
I salute you Mr. President, you will always be my president.
We celebrated Lucy’s Birthday. We had a wonderful time! We had a ton of fun taking pictures, as always. We had a delicious dinner at Olive Garden, all old-time favorite. Mmmmm Tiramisu! We stayed up late listening to the-good-old-times music. Songs like Red Roses for a Blue Lady, Blue Velvet, Night and Day, Close to You, Embraceable You, Something Stupid, Feelings, Forever and Ever and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I gave a special performance of Firefly to Steven and Lucy. They loved it. We went to bed with music in our hearts.

There are not cows on our driveway but there are cows from our driveway. Here’s a 12X zoom shot taken from inside our garage. Cool, huh? Cows! There’s rabbits, coyotes, turkey vultures out there too. I like living on the edge of the countryside.
Two days ago it was 84 degrees. Today it hovered around 32 all day. That means ice! Winter in north Texas seems to be an unpredictable fluctuation between 30 and 80 degrees. The weather people don’t seem to know what to do. At noon a weather guy said it was going to warm up after lunch. But what really happened next was that our trees became ice sculptures.
Check out the beautiful icicles and enjoy the video of me dropping my frozen shoe. Excuse me while I make some Teeccino.
We had a wonderful Christmas! We had artichoke spinach dip on Christmas EVE right before we opened gifts. The candle light service at church was beautiful. We had our famous all vegan lasagna Christmas Day! WOW, it was fabulous. Finger foods for New Year’s Eve that turned out a real hit!
We visited Grandbury. Lucy loved it! The weather has been fun to say the least. We’ve had 25 degree days all the way to sunny 80 degree days, with thunderstorms and rain in between. You gotta love Texas weather, not a dull moment. God is Good and has given us many blessings. Happy 2009!

Just a quick note about weather because I like weather. Yesterday was 84 degrees. Today the high is 39. That’s a 45 degree difference from one day to the next! Cool.
Stay tuned for a blog about yesterday. It was a beautiful day.
