Well let’s see. Last month we went to the Benbrook Lake and watched a Kite Show. But these were not regular kites, they were kites for Pros. They were actually SURF KITES. We brought our own tiny kite. It was quiet a contrast. On that VERY windy that day we got to do some fancy freesbee tricks!
On October we added three members to our family. A golden delicious apple tree “Goldie” a large Crape Myrtle tree (white flowers) “Moses” and a smaller Crape Myrtle tree (hot pink flowers) “Tiny-Tot”. We were told we would need to hire someone to plant them because of the large white rocks found in this area. But Steven tackle the task himself and did a fantastic job. He made the holes, dug out the large rocks with his bare hands and planted all three trees. You would think he has been planting trees all his life.
We got rid of our Mums, who died prematurely. We had bought them at Home Depot and got our money back. Learning from the bad experience we returned to the nursery where we bought our Petunias last Spring. It is a family owned flower nursery that sets a shop on the street, on Bryant Irvin Avenue. They carry the best flowers. It is a very popular joint for flower lovers.
We bought 36 multi-color Pansies. Steven planted them on the last day of the month and made our garden, once again, beautiful. Our front and back yards now feel very much like home. We have given it our own special touch! It has become a real hobbie for Steven. He loves the feeling of dirt in his hands. I enjoy watching him. I am the official photo-journalist and car washer.
October was a great month for yet another reason, we have become world class entertainers. We had some friends of mine from the Seminary one Saturday over for a pizza party. We also hosted four “dessert nights” inviting couples from our street over on different nights of the week. They were all delighted with our invite and gadly agreed to come. Out of all that socializing, our neighbors Todd and Amanda had us over for a little party a couple nights ago. There are two more sets of neighbors still to come. It’s been fun getting to know them all. We are blessed to be surrounded by such beautiful people.
Steven spent 7 hours planting a new garden this past Sunday. We learned a lot from our first Pentunia garden. This time Steven meticulously installed a weed-blocker cloth. That took hours, because the cloth needs to be measured, cut, and stapled. Also, the cloth needs to go around the sprinkler system lids, not an easy task. We got some beautiful magenta mums. They had not bloomed when we bought them last week at Home Depot, now from my window I can see them and they are all opened up and happy! This garden is very different from the Petunia garden, this one is much cleaner and the colors are very Christmasy!
You will notice our American Flag theme. We are feeling very patriotic in light of the coming Election. McCain-Maverick insipres us to display our flag every chance we get. That is part of the reason why we chose red flowers.
Steven did all the work and hard labor, all I did was wash the car and take a zillion pictures. Good Job Darling!
Spring is here and we have succeeded on our first gardening experience. We started three weeks ago by having Weed-Man come over and remove some old shrubs and other ugly landscaping the previous owner left behind. We wanted to start fresh and do our own thing. We bought all our supplies, plants, soil and flowers at the THE PLANT SHED a local greenhouse. There we met Libby, who tutored us and told us all we needed to know about planting a flower garden. So here it is, 30 bags of top soil, 10 bags of manure, 1 bag of hardwood mulch, 3 Forsinthia bushes and 71 white and purple petunias later, our masterpiece.~
A couple years ago Steven got the domain ilovestudents.com for me to use on a school project. I ended up never using it. This semester in one of my classes I was asked to write a Teacher Training Manual (hardcopy), and we had the brilliant idea of making it a Teacher Training Online Resource instead (using the domain name). Its a manual for college ministry lay leaders. I wrote the content and Steven turned it into a beautiful website! Notice the ABOUT section. And YES, I got an A!

A few weeks ago I told Steven that I was craving a slice of Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza, yes you read it right. Imagine a Bacon Cheeseburger and all its ingredients including crunchy little pickles and combine them with a pizza. Back when I was living in Mt. Lake MN, my friend Sue and I would have lunch every week at the Pizza Ranch, yeah I know it’s a sad name, but what can say it was Mountain Lake. So for Valentine’s Day I come home and Steven is making me, miracle of miracles, a Vegan Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. Pizza crust, pizza sauce, veggie ground beef, veggie cheddar cheese, veggie facon and tiny crunchy pickles tossed on the pizza after it is baked. WOWSERS!
It was a fabulously unexpected and delicious treat, not to mention very thoughtful and romantical.
May I add this feast was accompanied by many other surprises such as Red Roses, Heart Shaped Ballons, Sweet Cards, Teccino and White Cake for desert and lovely Frank Sinatra playing in the background.
Swept off my feet all over again.
To Chef Boyardee Five Stars!
We went to Church on Christmas Eve for the candle lighting service then had Christmas at Mom & Dad’s house with all the Gliebes, Lucy, Bob, Mark and David. It was a lot of fun.
SudiRoo got me Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis, a book light, “Go Fish” cards, a super portable tripod and a flickr Pro account (unlimited photo storage space, etc.). It really is the best way to store, organize and share your photos (has an API too). Sudi got some perfume, all kinds of purses, lots of clothes, boots and a custom CD. Lucy got a bunch of Joyce Meyer tapes and some other goodies. I made two oil paintings for Dan and Mom & Dad. Lucy made us beautiful oil painted aprons and brought the Gliebes some of that fine Mexican chocolate.
Here are our Christmas-time pictures, powered by my new flickr account (which is where we’ll upload all our future photos). Or, visit the actual Christmas 2006 gallery on flickr.
