A few weeks ago I had a bit of a down time between classes, so I spent most of my time doing what I love to do, read! Following are the great books I read about health and nutrition.
Detox
Helps you identify what level of diet you are in and provides great info on how to transition from a very unhealthy diet to a healthy one.
Raw Food
Victoria Boutenko shares the incredible journey her family went through, from disease to health thanks to the raw vegan diet.
Green For Life
Victoria shares the incredible healing properties of leafy greens. Essential to good health.
PH Balance
Excellent resource on the alkaline-acid balance the body needs for optimum health. Very informative.
Ani’s
Raw Vegan Cook Book.
Toxic Cleanse
The healing power of juicing and detox.
Wheatgrass
The marvels offered by the grasses. Steven and I have been taking wheatgrass for 21 days. We love it.
Sometimes you run across something that’s really cool or really useful. Here’s what I’ve come to like as of late.
Sudi Kate Gliebe – This one is not as of late but rather most of all.
Without her, everything else below would be irrelevant.
BrowserCAM let’s me test my sites on any and every operating system, browser and version with screenshots and VNC access. And the big secret is that Fundable gets you 1 year access for just $25 (it’s $500 direct from BrowserCam).
Trophy Chase Trilogy – A very well-written seafaring fantasy-adventure series by George Bryan Polivka. Great characters and suspense… hard to tell what’s going to happen next. I use my Fulcrum Multi Flex LED Book Light to read at night which is the best $11 reading light in the world.
Post Its for Yahoo Widgets – Now that I have a dual-monitor setup I put these post-its on the desktop of my left screen which allows my desk to be clear of the usual dozen real post-its which end up being frustrating.
Mark, you might find this one interesting: CodeIgniter model-view-controller PHP framework and the Nested Sets Model (versus the usual adjacency list model) used with MySQL are coming in very handy for my latest project which is the second version of an ultra-flexible CMS (content management system) for myself and my UK partner.
SyncBack SE – This is some really functional backup software. At $30 it’s a real great deal too. I ended up using this for my weekly PC to external HDD backups after finding that Windows Vista has a tremendous bug which basically crashes the shell if you try to copy bazillions of files. 8 months later and they still don’t have a fix. I even tried MS SyncToy and that has a fatal, unfixed bug too. Ouch. Thank you, SyncBack SE.
Albert Mohler’s radio show. Imagine Bill O’Reilly as a evangelical Theologian without sarcasm and 100 times sharper. That’s Al.
Recipezaar – A great recipe site with users’ recipes and reviews. Fantastic ability to search by cuisine, ingredients, etc. Only flaw is you have to be a paid member to see the big photos
We are on “Dusty Shoes” week. Learning about being the “salt” of the earth and the “light” of the world.
I finished C.S. Lewis’ Out of the Silent Planet book, which Sudi Claus brought to me on Christmas Eve, and I enjoyed it very much. He wrote it many years before his Narnia series (published in the 30’s). It’s sci-fi, not pure fantasy. I read it because I like C.S. Lewis’ style of fiction in the Narnia books. I found though that this book was of a completely different type of writing. The themes of good and evil forces and biblical allusions were there but the characters and worlds are very different. It’s not a “funny” book or a particularly heart-warming story like Narnia (though the “good” characters are equally noble) but more of an exploration of extraterrestrial and philosophical “what ifs”. It seems to me that this first book in the series (three books in the “Space Trilogy” series) serves primarily as a foundation for the rest of the series (the last book is several times thicker than each of the first two).
The style of the series has definitely grown on me and I’m excited about continuing with Perelandra (Sudi suprised me with the other two books last night
. It’s very interesting how the first book ends by revealing that it was written in third person by somebody (only named as “Lewis”) who met Ransom (the main character) after the fact and makes you wonder if the whole story really did happen by explaining that they published the tale as fiction because they figured nobody would believe it. Then, in the second book, it is the author of the first book narrating in first person where he himself comes into the adventure with Ransom and what they do next (I’m only on chapter two so I don’t know what that adventure will be yet…).
I never thought I’d be saying this, but I love reading! And the thought crossed my mind to write and illustrate a fantasy book someday (put it in my big fat Goals.txt file).

We went to Church on Christmas Eve for the candle lighting service then had Christmas at Mom & Dad’s house with all the Gliebes, Lucy, Bob, Mark and David. It was a lot of fun.
SudiRoo got me Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis, a book light, “Go Fish” cards, a super portable tripod and a flickr Pro account (unlimited photo storage space, etc.). It really is the best way to store, organize and share your photos (has an API too). Sudi got some perfume, all kinds of purses, lots of clothes, boots and a custom CD. Lucy got a bunch of Joyce Meyer tapes and some other goodies. I made two oil paintings for Dan and Mom & Dad. Lucy made us beautiful oil painted aprons and brought the Gliebes some of that fine Mexican chocolate.
Here are our Christmas-time pictures, powered by my new flickr account (which is where we’ll upload all our future photos). Or, visit the actual Christmas 2006 gallery on flickr.
I finished reading The Ezekiel Option by Joel Rosenberg. It’s a very, very gripping book – hard to put down! Before chapter one starts, the author says, “The journey that follows is fiction. The prophecy upon which it is based is true.” Here is part of the prophecy from the Bible.
Son of man, prophesy against Gog. Give him this message from the Sovereign LORD: I am your enemy, O Gog, ruler of the nations of Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you and drive you toward the mountains of Israel, bringing you from the distant north. I will knock your weapons from your hands and leave you helpless. You and all your vast hordes will die on the mountains. I will give you as food to the vultures and wild animals. You will fall in the open fields, for I have spoken, says the Sovereign LORD. And I will rain down fire on Magog and on all your allies who live safely on the coasts. Then they will know that I am the LORD.” – Ezekiel 39:1-6
What Joel does in this books is paint a picture of what the “Gog and Magog” invasion prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39 might be like. The story is fast-paced. The chapters are very short (I love that) so you’re always jumping back and forth between different groups of people in different places. The main characters are well-developed and interesting (especially the old Mossad agent, Mordechai). Here is a cut-and-paste synopsis of the story.
When the richest oil baron in Moscow is killed, Moscow suddenly teeters on the verge of political chaos. Tehran races to complete its nuclear arsenal. Washington finds herself dangerously divided from her European allies. And in the dead of night, in the hills overlooking Jerusalem, a senior White House advisor uncovers a chilling ancient conspiracy as real as the morning headlines. Woven through the writings of the Hebrew prophet Ezekiel, more than 2,500 years old, are eerily prescient descriptions of modern countries then unborn, modern alliances then unformed, and an imminent day of unspeakable terror. Now, with the clock ticking down to war, two Americans are caught in the crossfire, wondering, Is the last judgment at hand?
I would classify the story as a mystery/suspense with some moments of action and drama (two of the main characters are in love with each other). If you combined the prophetic theme of the Left Behind Series with the action/suspense elements of the Jack Ryan Series, you would get something like The Ezekiel Option. If this is appealing to you, read chapter one. If you like chapter one, buy the book!
You can read an article about the Ezekiel prophecy here: Magog Revisited by Chuck Missler. It’s interesting to note that this prophecy couldn’t have been fulfilled until Israel became a nation again in 1948, meaning that now it can happen. Also interesting is the fact that the nations Ezekiel prophesied 2,500 years ago as being the enemies involved are presently full of Islamic fascists that make no secret of wanting to “push Israel into the sea” (president of Iran (Persia) also says the holocaust is a “myth”). And Russia (Magog), well, they’re not exactly know for their love of the Jewish people.
We put together a list of resources regarding Israel. Mainly because the media (CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, BBC, PBS) is very slanted and conveniently leaves out important facts. We thought you would appreciate a Biblical perspective on the current situation. Feel free to send our link to friends, family and pastors. We hope these resources will be a blessing to you as they have been to us.
May the Lord Bless You as you study His Word and pray for Israel.
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12 :3
“See, I will bring them from the land of the north and gather them from the ends of the earth.” Jeremiah 31:8
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” Psalm 122:6

Barely credible; astonishing. Extremely pleasing. A success.

Fabulous
We finally had a chance to go see it last night. The story is heart warming and the movie superbly acted. Awesome script. A 10 in character development. My favorite part is the portrayal of 4 races in the warmest and purest light. Each one bringing out the best in each other. KeKe and Angela are so beautiful. Excellent! If you haven’t see it yet. You will love it!
Today was the day! Our church met for breakfast and then sent 1,700 volunteers out to deliver 35,000 Bibles and Easter service invitations to every household in El Cajon. We were assigned 36 homes on Primrose Drive.
It was a really awesome experience for us. About 80% received the Bible and Easter invitation with enthusiasm. We ran into a few “sometimes” church attenders (one that attends SMCC occasionally) that I think may just need a little extra nudge toward Jesus, and I think that our visit followed by Pastor Jeremiah’s message on Easter may be “it” for them! It seemed like everybody had a dog of some type, but it was no problem.
We ran into three or four Christians attending other churches. One of them attends Journey Church and was very kind to offer us water as we were leaving and wish us luck. It was nice to know we had fellow Christians on the “battlefield” rooting us on.
We saw a couple other fellow teams out delivering Bibles while we made our exit. We also saw Bibles hanging on many doors all over the neighborhood. It’s awesome to realize that every home in a city of 100,000 now has a Bible and invitation to our church! When I multiply our experience by the other 1700 volunteers I know without a doubt that this event will have a HUGE impact and many will come to know Jesus (sooner or later) because of it!
We thank God for this opportunity to serve. Pastor John Gillette was an awesome leader and his team did an amazing job coordinating everything. It was quite a task to organize the teams and their destinations along with all the Bible bagging work and meal preparation.
