Thanksgiving Snow VideoIt snowed here on Thanksgiving this year. I put together a little video to show the family and friends back in San Diego what snow looks like. I had to ask Sudi, who has lived in Minnesnowta, if it was snowing because I wasn’t entirely sure what snow falling from the sky looked like. The Fort Worth area is only supposed to get one inch of snow per year. I think that might have been it. I love studentsA couple years ago Steven got the domain ilovestudents.com for me to use on a school project. I ended up never using it. This semester in one of my classes I was asked to write a Teacher Training Manual (hardcopy), and we had the brilliant idea of making it a Teacher Training Online Resource instead (using the domain name). Its a manual for college ministry lay leaders. I wrote the content and Steven turned it into a beautiful website! Notice the ABOUT section. And YES, I got an A! Happy ThanksgivingJoin me in singing… “When I think about the Lord, When I think about the Lord, It makes me wanna shout It makes me wanna SHOUT!!!!” Happy Thanksgiving 11 Things I LikeSometimes you run across something that’s really cool or really useful. Here’s what I’ve come to like as of late. Sudi Kate Gliebe - This one is not as of late but rather most of all. BrowserCAM let’s me test my sites on any and every operating system, browser and version with screenshots and VNC access. And the big secret is that Fundable gets you 1 year access for just $25 (it’s $500 direct from BrowserCam). Trophy Chase Trilogy - A very well-written seafaring fantasy-adventure series by George Bryan Polivka. Great characters and suspense… hard to tell what’s going to happen next. I use my Fulcrum Multi Flex LED Book Light to read at night which is the best $11 reading light in the world. Post Its for Yahoo Widgets - Now that I have a dual-monitor setup I put these post-its on the desktop of my left screen which allows my desk to be clear of the usual dozen real post-its which end up being frustrating. Mark, you might find this one interesting: CodeIgniter model-view-controller PHP framework and the Nested Sets Model (versus the usual adjacency list model) used with MySQL are coming in very handy for my latest project which is the second version of an ultra-flexible CMS (content management system) for myself and my UK partner. SyncBack SE - This is some really functional backup software. At $30 it’s a real great deal too. I ended up using this for my weekly PC to external HDD backups after finding that Windows Vista has a tremendous bug which basically crashes the shell if you try to copy bazillions of files. 8 months later and they still don’t have a fix. I even tried MS SyncToy and that has a fatal, unfixed bug too. Ouch. Thank you, SyncBack SE. Albert Mohler’s radio show. Imagine Bill O’Reilly as a evangelical Theologian without sarcasm and 100 times sharper. That’s Al. Recipezaar - A great recipe site with users’ recipes and reviews. Fantastic ability to search by cuisine, ingredients, etc. Only flaw is you have to be a paid member to see the big photos The BlackhawkOn July 1st our church held our annual God and Country Celebration service. It was a beautiful service as all the veterans that have served on all wars were invited to come forward to receive a medal of appreciation. While the choir and a male quartette sang “You Lift Me Up”, the congregation gave them a standing ovation. We also saw the presentation of the Flag and the Flag Folding Ceremony, something I had never seen before, it was very solemn. As a special surprise our Pastor invited a Blackhawk helicopter to land on our softball field and we were invited to take a little tour of the plane, meet the pilots and get our pictures taken. Being the obsessive-compulsive-photography-family that we are, we were the first ones in line on Sunday morning. They turned out really nice and it was a special gift to me since this is my first 4th of July as a US citizen and also because we might never have this unique opportunity ever again. Most people don’t know this about meIn 1918, when I was a 40-year-old pipe fitter for the city of San Diego, I was drafted into World War I. Courtesy of ancestry.com. They let you search their new military records for free until D-Day. Citizenship InterviewThe interview was a success. Praise The Lord! It was scheduled for 11:30am and although my attorney told me they usually run late, they called me in right on time. The interview was the shortest in history, I was in and out in 10 minutes. I was asked to lift my right hand and swear to tell the truth, it was very exciting! The officer who interviewed me Fred Mapanao was very kind and quite funny. He was very impressed to see that I was carrying a U.S.A flag in my hand and when he told me, I smiled and showed him my other flag on my lapel, then he was REALLY impressed :). He asked me the basic NO questions, “Are you a habitual drunkard?” etc. And then the YES questions “Do you agree with the laws and regulations of the United States?” For my history test, he asked me only 6 questions and I got them right. Colors of the flag, three branches of the government, when was the independence declaration signed, who was the first President of the United States etc, I was hoping he would ask me all 100 questions that I know by heart, but he only asked me 6. I signed a bunch of papers and pictures and before I knew it, he stood up and congratulated me. One thing I noticed was that I was the only one with an attorney. I told Mr Linkon I was lucky to have him. He has been a real champ through this process and we thank God for His life. After the interview, my baby-love took me out to lunch to my favorite restaurant in Del Mar “En Fuego”. Here’s a few pics of my big day. The Signs Of LifeOur church just embarked in The Forty Days of The Signs Of Life. The campaign is meant to be like a mirror showing us all how we’re doing as Christians. We are going to learn what the signs of a vibrant Christian faith are. Our pastor, David Jeremiah wrote a book with 40 daily readings for us to study for the next 40 days, the reading began yesterday. Steven and I loved it, it’s very practical and biblically sound. Church was so much fun, you could feel the buzz and the excitement. The Five Signs of Life are: Dusty Shoes: Living a Relevant Life Worn-Out Kness: Living a Yielded Life Rolled Up Sleeves: Living an Authentic Life Open Hands: Living a Generous Life Outstretched Arms: Living a Compassionate Life As a way to apply Open Hands, on March 24th we are going to give an Extreme Makeover to the Logan Elementry School campus in Down Town SD. Last night at church we had the kick off for this event. The school principal, teachers and staff were all there. Pastor St. John and Pastor Gillette have this massive event coordinated and computerized. There is something to do for everyone, furniture assembly, gardening, carpentry, landscaping, painting, banner making, administration, clean up, set up and tear down. Pastor said, people have been asking him, “Why are you doing this?” and he tells them, “Because this is what Jesus would have us do, give and give and give to people we don’t know and to people who can’t give us nothing in return”. Pastor Gillette asked Steven to take care of the photography, so that will be his primary responsibility. Another volunteer will be video-taping the before and after. When all the hard work is done we will celebrate with a huge picnic/concert where our church and the school staff, parents and children will all meet. WE CAN NOT WAIT! God Is GOOD!
"I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."Genesis 12 Calendar
