Western Fun with Mom & DadPosted by Steven in Family, Fun, Holidays, Home, Outdoors, Photography, Places on October 18th, 2009 at 10:16am
Mom and Dad visited us this Fall. We did some fun western stuff in Fort Worth plus the Benbrook Cowboy Roundup. We also spent some time by Benbrook Lake and ate good vegan food. Summer Garden UpdatePosted by Steven in Food, Fun, Garden, Holidays, Home, Outdoors, Photography, Places on July 25th, 2009 at 07:15pm
Here are some pics from our garden at this point. We’ve have 300+ tomatoes and we’re starting to get some good cucumbers now. The peppers are few but tasty. Our sunflowers expired. The tallest one was about 9 feet tall. Fun to grow! God Bless AmericaPosted by Sudi in Family, Food, Fun, General, Holidays, Outdoors, Photography, Places, Weather on July 8th, 2009 at 09:38pm
We enjoyed an unforgettable 4th of July. Steven got me surprise tickets for a Concert & Fireworks Show at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. We arrived at 5:30 and stood in line (we actually sat in our lawn chairs under the shade of a huge Magnolia tree) for an hour. At 6:30 the doors were opened. It was a very hot day, but around 7ish, the temperature dropped to a comfortable 97 degrees so the rest of the night was very enjoyable. Two options for seating were offered, “lawn” or “tables”. Steven “the genious” got us lawn tickets and we got to sit front and center in front of more than 10,000 people. We really had the best seats (grass) in the house. We laid out our old La Jolla beach towels and enjoyed fun snacks and drinks. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra did the fabulous concert. All patriotic marches and good ol’ American classics like Yankee Doodle Dandy. The grand finale was performed by a soloist, a young soprano who sang God Bless America, a huge flag unfolded in the back as she sang and the spectacular fireworks began. We had the time of our lives. The Village of BenbrookPosted by Steven in Church, Family, General, Holidays, Home, Photography, Places on June 5th, 2009 at 09:57pm
This was taken by Sergeant C. P. Devos of the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 or 1918. Benbrook was a training camp during World War I. There are more old Benbrook pictures from Deseronto Archives on flickr. Benbrook is Better than Fort Worth is Better than DallasI got a nice e-mail from Zillow this morning.
Downright amazing for a recession! I clicked through to their market report and saw this (warm is up, cool is down). It’s very interesting to me that every city on the Fort Worth side saw appreciation while every city on the Dallas side saw a loss. And guess which city of all saw the biggest gain? Yep, Benbrook! I have high hopes for Benbrook. If all goes well during the next five years we’ll have a redesigned main boulevard with landscaping and utilities underground (standard in California but rare here) and some “big box” stores. I also just read in the paper that they are building 10 – 35 acre ranch estates on the south shore of Benbrook Lake. That’s not technically in Benbrook (it’s nowhere) but I think having bazillionaires nearby helps with all things. There’s also Benbrook Town Center (to my San Diego people, think Otay Ranch Town Center with Dutch architecture) but I don’t think this is possible until the economy is doing really well again. It sure would be cool though. Christmas with LucyPosted by Sudi in Family, Fun, Garden, General, Holidays, Home, Photography, Places on January 4th, 2009 at 10:58am
We had a wonderful Christmas! We had artichoke spinach dip on Christmas EVE right before we opened gifts. The candle light service at church was beautiful. We had our famous all vegan lasagna Christmas Day! WOW, it was fabulous. Finger foods for New Year’s Eve that turned out a real hit! We visited Grandbury. Lucy loved it! The weather has been fun to say the least. We’ve had 25 degree days all the way to sunny 80 degree days, with thunderstorms and rain in between. You gotta love Texas weather, not a dull moment. God is Good and has given us many blessings. Happy 2009! Early Christmas GiftSweet Blessings came early! Steven gave me a wonderful Christmas gift. Took me to a Phillips, Craig and Dean concert. WOW! AMAZING. Been a long time fan and had never heard them LIVE. It all started with Italian for dinner. The concert was 3 hours long. My baby-love also got me 2 CDS. Great Splurge! We have been listening non-stop. These guys are not your average celebrities, although they are incredibly talented and very successful. Every song they write turns into a hit and all churches in American sings their songs. Nevertheless the guys are not the stars of the show, the STAR is JESUS. They make that very clear. All three of them are pastors, husbands and fathers. And on the side they manage to travel around the world and usher millions into the presence of the KING. The icing on the cake was that our good friends from the Seminary, Merrie and Andy were there. We left the concert together and grabbed some coffee. Got back at midnight, right before the Corolla turns into a pumpkin. The concert was a glimpse of HEAVEN. It was loud, it was joyous, it was fun, it was majestic…..it was all about Jesus. Thank you Santa Baby, for a beautiful Christmas gift. You went all out! Texas Thanksgiving 2008 PicturesPosted by Steven in Family, Fun, General, Holidays, Home, Photography, Places on December 6th, 2008 at 10:00am
Mom, Dad and Dan visited us in Texas for Thanksgiving this year. We had a delicious vegan feast and spent some time in the town of Granbury. Here are some pictures. Steven planted our moms…I mean our mums!Posted by Sudi in Artwork, Family, Fun, Garden, General, Home, Outdoors, Photography, Places on September 20th, 2008 at 12:09pm
Steven spent 7 hours planting a new garden this past Sunday. We learned a lot from our first Pentunia garden. This time Steven meticulously installed a weed-blocker cloth. That took hours, because the cloth needs to be measured, cut, and stapled. Also, the cloth needs to go around the sprinkler system lids, not an easy task. We got some beautiful magenta mums. They had not bloomed when we bought them last week at Home Depot, now from my window I can see them and they are all opened up and happy! This garden is very different from the Petunia garden, this one is much cleaner and the colors are very Christmasy! You will notice our American Flag theme. We are feeling very patriotic in light of the coming Election. McCain-Maverick insipres us to display our flag every chance we get. That is part of the reason why we chose red flowers. Steven did all the work and hard labor, all I did was wash the car and take a zillion pictures. Good Job Darling!
